The First Experience, First Debate-the 1st time

This is why we can say that, in science, we often learn from our mistakes, and why we can speak clearly and sensibly about making progress there. -Karl Popper

"Good afternoon, my honourable judgers, teachers, and my friends. The motion before us today is 'Should grade system be abolished?' YES. I fully support that. I strongly believe marks are better than grades in assessment of student....First of all,"  This was the beginning of today, my debate.

Last September 17, Friday,DYPIS decided to have Inter House English Debate-Sapphire vs. Ruby. My house, Sapphire, contactor Chiranjeet sir as well as CAS coordinator and Pruvaa ma'am suggested us to apply. "Everyone could apply and it would be good experience and opportunity for you. You could have confidence with standing in front of publics and it could help you grow your speech ability also. As much as possible, volunteer and try! Of course, there would be a next chance. But, when you get the chance, just catch it, show your efforts, and make you better." So, I volunteered and wanted to catch it. Even, before having a debate, there was a one more small competition. In the debate, there has to be only 3 participants but, in my house, Sapphire, there were 4 volunteers finally. For sorting out the 3 participants, we had a pre-competition. At that time, I kept peace of mind though I wanted to be a participants. I don't know well why I thought like that. Actually, at that time, I was expecting nothing. But, I was selected. I really was surprised, thanked and I knew I have to improve more and more in my arguments. So, my next part would be started... When I was selected by Chiranjeet sir and Viji ma'am, they suggested some additions and advised me how to prepare. As I accepted their advice and cheers, I added some more, practiced many times, and was checked by others. There was no end of practicing it.

This work was a little tough for me. It was my first debate!!!!! Practice, practice, practice, but still it was insufficient and fingding the informations to support my opinion would be another practice of preparation. Although there were those insufficient factors, it was amazing and I could feel I am walking to approve another site. About debate, one site says, Debate is a great confidence builder for young people (and older) to be involved in. If you can hold your own on a team, you can be confident in most settings. A Debate Speech is different from any other type of speech because you are not just giving information. In a Debate Speech you are defending an idea. You know that an opponent is also preparing a speech that is going to be designed to make you speech look bad!

There were 6 participants(Ruby(3)-Jerry(DP 2), Nishad(DP 2), (grade 8) and Sapphire(3)-Trisha(DP 2), Dasom(DP 1,me), Mukul(DP 2)) and judgers(Chloe ma'am and Di ma'am) and Chiranjeet sir hosted the debate and Muktanan sir let us know the time limits. Each participant was given 4 minutes and there was retort part, in that, was given 2 minutes. I was a little scared. Actually, I really like catching the MIC. This time, I didn't want to have frightening, however, the language and the first made me feel hasitated only the 3words! Other participants have really nice attitude, positions and they would be good speakers. They seem like being confidence and asserting very well in my sight. Especially, my knowledgable opponent, Nishad as well as the winner of debate was wonderful. I was impressed and stimulated by him. After finishing the debate, I and my friends were talking about the positions and attitude on the way to home. We all thought we must practice and try to have the confidence much more!

This is just the first step to advance to forward. Next time, I will be able to take another opportunity. Also, I'm sure I would be participated in it again and again. As I know, the more practices and mistakes make, the better results would occur. All the time, I enjoyed and every parts made me think What would I do. I really thank once more for all the teachers and my friends who has encouraged and cheered me.

Hi Dasom, the fact that you overcame your inhibitions and put your best foot forward is itself a sign of positivity. The way you tried to pick up all the techniques, learn from various sources, overcome your stage fright and take the stage is encouraging.

I have no doubt that in future, your preparation and confidence will improve a lot. Do mention the exact learning outcomes.
Cheers!

Of course, sir! I could feel it needs to me and was really difficult but easy step. As I put my foot forward, I could realize I want to put my step one more. Every first/new experience and attempt could make me feel uneasy. But, at the same time, it helps me advance. Thank you for pulling me, sir :)
